Magic Sponge is the perfect solution for some car care tasks. What is a magic sponge? It’s an open-cell melamine foam that easily cleans stubborn dirt from various surfaces. However, remember that it is also abrasive, like fine sandpaper. So use it wisely, as it’s an excellent solution for cleaning some surfaces, but it may cause damage to others. You can easily make two sponges out of one by cutting it in half.

How to use a magic sponge?

They work when wet so that you can use them with just water. However, use an interior or diluted all-purpose cleaner to increase the cleaning power. Damp the sponge in water or soak it in your cleaning solution and gently rub the dirty surface with the sponge. Do not apply much pressure on the sponge, as it is abrasive. After cleaning, wipe the surface with a dry cloth. It works exceptionally well on hard textured surfaces, like plastics inside or outside the car. It will easily clean kick marks from the car door cards or plastic sill. We also find it great for initially cleaning filthy windows inside the car, for example, in a smoker’s car. The magic sponge finds its place not just in car care but also in various tasks at home.

Is magic sponge safe for cleaning leather?

The answer is no! Leather has a protective top coat. If you use a magic sponge to clean leather, you may get the result of clean leather, but in most cases, you will remove the protective top coat, damaging the leather. This will speed up the wear of leather massively.
Magic sponges are also a wrong choice for cleaning any glossy surfaces inside the car.
Due to its abrasiveness, it may leave a matty finish on smooth or glossy surfaces. So, as you can see, it’s an excellent solution for some applications, but it may cause damage to others. So use it wisely.
